Electric pool cars are now available at the Civic Offices

Last year the Council took delivery of its first set of fully electric vehicles.

In line with our Project Zero goals, Hyundai Kona EVs have replaced a number of the diesel-powered cars in our pool car fleet, reducing our emissions by 26,304kg each year.

The vehicles are now available as part of the Council’s Pool Car Scheme at the Civic and Alps offices.

Parking bays

Last year we installed several electric charging points in the Civic Offices staff car park. Three of these will now be reserved for the electric pool cars ONLY.

The charging points that are not in use will be covered.  If you drive to the Civic Offices in your own car, please ensure that you park in a bay without a charging point or with a covered charging point.

Charging electric vehicles

We have put together a short video explaining what to do upon collecting keys for your EV car:

Please note that if you book an electric vehicle, you are also responsible for charging it.

Charging cables are kept in a black bag in the boot of the cars.

To charge the vehicle, scan the fob on the card reader on the charging point and press the green button.

Next, you should lift the green lid and connect the charging cable to the charging point.

Making sure the car is unlocked, open the charging hatch at the front of the car, remove the plug and insert the other end of the charging cable.

Once the connection is secure, the charging hatch will light up green and display a battery gage.

Before removing the cable, you should again scan the fob, but this time press the red ‘stop’ button on the charging point.

You will not be able to remove the cable unless the car is unlocked.

Important information about vehicle charging

Please ensure that only one pool car is plugged in to a single charging unit at one time. Currently, the charging points cannot be used to charge more than one vehicle at one time.

Please remember to place the charging cable back in the boot of the car once charging is complete for the next user.
