Council celebrates #IWD2023
Please note, applications to attend the event have now closed and all successful and unsuccesful applicants have been notified.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is hosting its largest ever event to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March at Penarth Pier Pavilion.
A number of places have been reserved for staff and applications are now open to women across the organisation.
Whatever your background. Whatever your role. This event is for you.
IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
This year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity. Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have. A focus on gender equity is a key part of our work to foster strong communities with a bright future. If we are to do this it's critical we all understand the difference between equity and equality.
IWD 2023's campaign theme aims to get the world talking about why "equal opportunities are no longer enough." This will be explored at our event by a series of keynote speakers including Heather Stevens CBE, Chair of the Trustees of the Waterloo Foundation, and Kellie Beirne, Director, Cardiff Capital Region City Deal.
The event will be hosted by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Lis Burnett, and will feature music from students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Afternoon tea will be also served.
The full cost of the event is being covered by our generous sponsors The Waterloo Foundation, ISG, and CJCH solicitors.
