Colleagues receive Long Service Awards
Over the last two weeks, several colleagues from across the Council services have received awards for their long service via a new corporate initiative.
Those reaching 25 and 40 year service milestones were automatically invited to a session delivered in the Civic Offices by the Chief Executive and Leader to honour the employees for their valued contribution during their time at the Council.
The recipients were from a wide range of areas and included social care officers, general labourers, cleaners, senior management and more, highlighting the breadth of services provided by the Council.
The attendees reflected about the years gone by (particularly social activities) and were treated to a music quiz based on the years that their Council careers began.
Paul Russell (Operational Manager-Exchequer Services) celebrating 40 years pointed out that he started his career in a modern Civic Offices which was only 2 years old at the time.
We spoke to several people at the events, who were all thrilled to receive recognition for the work they have put into their long careers for the Vale.
Elaine Edgerton, who celebrated her 40th anniversary in June 2022 said: “This has been lovely this afternoon. There have been some people I know, and some people I don’t. Some people here I’ve spent time with at work and some socially at Christmas over the years.”
“When I hit 40 years, I had a Staffnet piece written about it and they held a little event in the Docks Office for me. It was a great surprise – It was really, really lovely.”
HR Lifecycle Manager Mathew James said: “It’s important to recognise staff members that have worked at the Council for a significant period of their career and for the hard work and services they have provided over the years.
“The previous approach has been for staff to apply for this award but we have now put in place a process to invite future recipients to the event. It has been great to hear all the experiences working at this organisation!”
In addition to the two events, two team members at SRS have recently hit impressive milestones.
Denise Davies and Jane Hartshorn have recently completed 40 years of continuous service in local government, both starting work on the same day in January 1983.
Keep your eyes peeled on Staffnet+ over the coming weeks as we’ll be running a short series of profile pieces with some of the employees that have reached on of these milestones.
