Be Mighty. Recycle.

Be Mighty Recycle EnglishLast week, Wrap Cymru launched their Be Mighty. Recycle. Campaign, encouraging us all to harness the full power of food waste recycling.

In Wales, most recycled food waste is turned into renewable energy which powers Welsh homes and communities.

In line with our Project Zero objectives, the Council’s target to attain carbon net zero status by 2030, we encourage all our staff and residents to recycle where possible.

Last year, Vale residents were the second-best recyclers in Wales. We are also one of the few authorities to have already exceeded the Welsh Government’s target of 70% recycling rate by 2024-25.

Project Zero LogoYou may have already seen the Council’s new Project Zero hub. The hub features some of the actions colleagues from across the Council are taking to help achieve this goal, including through waste and food.

Alongside every Council in Wales, we offer a weekly food waste recycling collection service to all our residents. Last year, these collections generated enough energy to power over 10,000 homes in Wales!

Recycle Wales have made an animation explaining how the food waste is converted into energy through anaerobic digestion.

Did you know…

  • 715 caddies of food waste would create enough green energy to light up the Principality Stadium floodlights for an entire game

  • You could keep your phone fully charged all weekend with just two banana peels

  • A caddy full of food waste would produce enough green energy to watch two hours of your favourite TV series

  • Wales is ranked third in the world at recycling

Harness the full power of food waste recycling and help get Wales to the no.1 spot by placing your food waste in your food caddy!
