How well do you know the Vale?

New data from the 2021 Census is now available.

The Census is undertaken every 10 years and gives the most accurate estimate of all people and households in England and Wales.

Information from the Census is used by Government and Local Authorities to plan and fund local services, such as education, healthcare and transport.

Census 21 was the first, digital by default Census which resulted in one of the best up-take rates with 98% of households in the Vale of Glamorgan responding and 94.2% responding online.

It’s important that we use this data, which is the most accurate and up-to-date resource we have, to inform our work.

Officers in our Policy and Partnership team have compiled a report on the first Census datasets released by the Office for National Statistics.

This analysis is presented through the Vale of Glamorgan Insight – Census 2021 Report.

The report includes analysis of data on nine topics, these are:

  • Demography and Migration
  • UK Armed Forces Veterans
  • Ethnic Group, National Identity, Language and Religion
  • Welsh Language
  • Labour Market and Travel to Work
  • Housing
  • Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
  • Education
  • Health, Disability and Unpaid Care
