Council Colleagues Receive Long Service Awards
Council Colleagues Receive Long Service Awards
This week, colleagues from across the Council services attended a long-service awards ceremony.
Those reaching 25 and 40-year milestones with the Council were invited by the Chief Executive and Leader to the ceremony held at the Civic Offices.
The awards ceremony was held to honour the employees and recognise their valued contributions during their time with the Council.
Those attending the awards work across several different services, including democratic services, waste management and SRS to name a few.
The attendees were offered the opportunity to reflect on the years gone by and provide colleagues with an insight into their role within the council.
They were treated to a buffet lunch and challenged to a musical quiz from the years that they started their employment. The afternoon consisted of nostalgic anecdotes of past endeavours and fond memories of occasions where they have felt most proud.
Lorna Cross, Operational Manager at Financial Services lamented: “My proudest moment was the dedication of our staff ensuring our services remained operational during the covid crisis”.
“We worked tirelessly during very difficult times, and we are immensely proud of our colleagues”.
Whilst some remembered inspirational co-workers past and present, others reflected on their progression pathway during their time working for the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Steve Williams, Team Leader at the Motor Vehicle Fitter garage said: “I am very thankful to the Vale of Glamorgan Council for giving me the opportunities to further my career. I started on the shop floor, and I am now leading a team of Motor Fitters”.
Peter Andrews, Waste Management Operator, discussed his appreciation for the historical events he has witnessed whilst on duty “I remember when I started, I used to enjoy watching the MV Balmoral dock at Penarth Pier. These are cherished memories which will stay with me forever”.
Some quipped how much they have enjoyed seeing the Council grow over the years and expand its services to benefit the wider public.
Matthew Jones, Enforcement Manager at Shared Regulatory Services said: “I have seen the growth in SRS over the years and we have the infrastructure to be able to help those that really need it. Being part of this process gives me a great sense of achievement”.
The commitment and dedication of these individuals is paramount to the successful delivery of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s day-to-day services. We are indebted to their loyal service and would like to, once again, congratulate them all on this significant milestone.
