Summer Of Fun 2022 is drawing to a close
As we head into the last couple of weeks of this year’s Summer Of Fun programme, we are reflecting on a fun-filled summer.
Funded by Welsh Government, the scheme aims to support the wellbeing of children and young people to continue their recovery from the Covid restrictions of the last two years, with the added benefit of supporting families with the costs of activities over the summer holidays.
Since 01 July, over 700 free activity sessions have been delivered across 24 towns and villages in the Vale of Glamorgan.
In collaboration with 16 lead partners including Happy Hands & Co, Bro Radio and Key Create, and many community clubs and organisations, a jam-packed schedule of events was offered at no cost to young people aged up to 25 across the county.
This year’s programme boasted a huge variety of activities, ranging from dance and arts classes to fossil hunting and radio workshops.
Alongside external organisations, services from across the Council have worked closely with the scheme and have staged their own activity sessions.
The Sports Development Team, Play Development Team, Libraries Service, Tourism & Events Team, Countryside Services, Youth Services, Arts Development Service, Early Help Team and the Community Safety Team have all delivered events over the last few months as part of the Summer of Fun programme.
Back in August, the Sports and Play team’s national play Day event at Romilly park attracted large numbers and saw hundreds of young people enjoying a variety of play opportunities.
The Vale Youth Service, Flying Start Team, Family Information Service, Vale Parenting Service, Vale Libraries and Adult Learning Team all attended the event and delivered a day packed with inclusive, fun activities to celebrate and highlight the importance of all things play.
The day was just one of many highlights of this year’s programme.
With large numbers of events reaching full capacity, Summer of Fun 2022 has proven to be a huge success and has supported hundreds of families with the cost of summer holiday activities – well done to everyone involved!
