Message from the Chief Executive

16 September 2022

Dear colleagues,

Queen Elizabeth II

At the end of what I know will have been a sombre week for many I would like to advise you of the arrangements that have been made in the Vale to mark the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which will take place on Monday.

Colleagues in our Democratic Services team have been working with the Mayor and a number of community groups to arrange a service of thanksgiving and commemoration for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This will take place at All Saints Church in Barry on Sunday at 3.00pm.

The service is open to all members of the public. A number of representatives of the Council will be in attendance. If you are considering attending then be aware that it is expected the building will reach capacity and seating will be limited. For those who would like to follow it from home, the service will be broadcast by Bro Radio.

Purple lightingA number of Council buildings and other landmarks will be lit purple until Monday evening in memory of Her Majesty. These include the Civic Offices, the clock face of the Town Hall, and the Eastern and Western Shelters at Barry Island. I’d like to thank colleagues in our Property and Building Services teams who worked quickly this week to put arrangements for this in place.

I would also like to thank all of those colleagues who have changed their shift patterns for the week ahead, or who will be working flexibly, to ensure that our essential services continue to operate on Monday and that marking this historic moment does not result in significant disruption to our communities in the days that follow. Diolch yn fawr.

As always, thanks to you all for your work this week. For those of you who have been affected by the events of the past week I’d like to remind you again of the information on support available that was shared earlier in the week.

Cofion and kind regards,

Rob.
