Everyones Garden is open to the community
Everyone’s Garden opens to the community
The Council has worked with partners and residents to transform a previously derelict site off Margaret Avenue in Colcot into a flourishing space for the community to enjoy.
To celebrate the completion of the project, an open day was held on 19 October, giving the community an opportunity to see what Everyone’s Garden has to offer.
After funding was obtained to develop the land, the Council’s Community Investment Team worked closely with residents and partners to deliver a shared community space.
The garden boasts a range of features including a greenhouse made from recycled plastic bottles, a play area, allotment, and an education centre.
The project was a collaborative effort with partners and residents. Colcot Primary School, Colcot Residents Association, Bouygues UK, Horizon Civil Engineering, National Resource Wales, Eggseeds, Home Education Wales, Vale Youth Service, Flying Start and Vale Homes all helped develop elements of the site that were chosen by the community through public consultations.
Going forward, community groups and Colcot Primary School will be instrumental in the gardens upkeep and maintenance, many of which have already held events, workshops, and wellbeing sessions at the site.
