Our Miles For Ukraine Journey

Dear Colleagues,

Through the distressing scenes in Ukraine, have emerged humbling examples of community spirit and togetherness in a collective effort to support the millions of people who have fled their homes to escape the conflict.

I am proud that we have been able to play a role in this.

Since the launch of our Miles for Ukraine campaign, we have once again demonstrated the great that we can achieve as an organisation.

Staff from across the Council have thrown themselves at the challenge and back in March we smashed our original target of 1,775 miles.

Our final milometer now stands at an amazing 4,297.64 miles.

Along with funds raised by Schools across the Vale, we have collectively raised an incredible £13,923 for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and across the border in the neighbouring countries, working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection, and trauma care.

Your donations will also help people affected by the conflict to rebuild their lives in the months and years to come.

Saleh Saeed, CEO of Distasters Emergency Committee said: “Every step taken is a powerful demonstration of support for people affected by the conflict in Ukraine. Every pound raised will help meet the immediate and longer term needs of families in Ukraine and neighbouring countries as they face an uncertain future. Thank you”

If you still wish to donate, it is not too late. The Miles For Ukraine Just Giving page remains open.

As Miles for Ukraine comes to a close, it is important that we reflect on our achievement.

Adam Spear said“ I have completed a number of walks with colleagues which have been incredibly enjoyable after working remotely for so long. This has been a fantastic initiative both for what it is trying to do for the people of Ukraine but also for our own mental well being. There should be some more miles added by the end of the week!”

Whether you held your team meeting at one of our beaches or spent your lunch taking the dog for a walk, every mile submission, no matter how big or small, has totalled a great accomplishment.

Diolch yn fawr pawb. Congratulations for achieving something great.
