Youth Work Week
23 – 30 June 2022
Youth Work Week is a chance to celebrate the positive stories and successes from the last 12 months. It is a time to highlight stories from the Youth Work Sector and recognise the contribution that all those working in Youth Work Services have made to young people and communities across Wales.
We are using this platform to highlight the achievements of the Vale Youth Service, say thank you, and increase understanding around youth work.
In the Vale of Glamorgan, we have a thriving Youth Service, who support young people across the county from 11-25 years old. There are a wide variety of services that offer this support, from open-access Universal provisions such as youth clubs and after-school clubs, to targeted teams that focus on wellbeing, homelessness and NEETs prevention. A full list of our services can be found on our website.
The Service works in partnership with internal and external colleagues to offer a high standard of provision that meets the needs of young people across the Vale. All staff are professionally qualified and registered with the Education Workforce Council, helping to ensure a quality service is being delivered.
Staff from the service have been recognised through nominations and awards at a variety of levels in the past year for the work that has been done through the pandemic and within the wider youth work sector. As a team, the Youth Service have also achieved the Bronze Quality Mark for youth work in Wales, showing excellence in quality provision that have then been used as case studies to other youth services across Wales. The Service is currently working towards the Silver Quality Mark, which is due to be assessed in September this year.
In addition to this, in July 2021, the Vale Youth Service was awarded the Participation Standards Charter, which illustrates our commitment to children and young people’s participation. Following this, the Service has recently recruited a new member of staff, to lead on participation projects to help develop this further over the coming years.
During Youth Work Week, there will be additional activities run in schools by the Youth Wellbeing team and in youth club provisions as part of the Universal team’s offer. The Service will also promote the work that has been done by various teams this year, relating this to this year’s theme of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. This can be viewed on our social media platforms, through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
