21st Century Schools Team Scoops Award
21st Century Schools Team Scoops Award
Our 21st Century Schools team has triumphed in the Best Procurement Delivery category at this year’s Go Awards Wales
14 May, 2021
Open to public, private and third sector organisations, the awards aim to recognise excellence in public procurement.
There was stiff competition in the Best Procurement Delivery section, with the team seeing off challenges from Transport for Wales, Rype Office & Merthyr Institute for the Blind; Centerprise International with contributing organisations: Caerphilly County Borough Council, HPE & Aruba; and Carmarthenshire County Council.
They clinched the prize for the collaborative way in which community benefits have been delivered as part of the 21st Century Schools programme.
School buildings are being constructed in such a way that they will provide wider social, economic and environmental benefits across the County.
For example, contractors have sought to award sub-contracted jobs to local companies and to provide apprenticeship opportunities to people who live in the Vale of Glamorgan.
The 21st Century Schools team programme manage the comprehensive upgrade of educational infrastructure across the County, which is delivered in partnership with Welsh Government.
Paula Ham, Director of Learning and Skills, said: "This is a richly deserved award for a team that have gone far above and beyond in delivering our 21st Century Schools programme, often trebling even their own ambitious targets.
“Not only are children across the Vale enjoying modern, first-class educational provision, but the innovative way in which these facilities have been delivered means surrounding communities have also benefited. This has come through employment opportunities, community and environmental activities and contracts for local businesses.”
The 21st Century Schools team have now been shortlisted for the UK National Go Awards, which will be announced at a ceremony in Birmingham in September.
We wish them the best of luck at the awards! Congratulations to Kelly, Matt and Chloe on all of your successes.
