Barry Island Primary’s Project Zero enrichment week

This week, pupils at Barry Island Primary took part in an enrichment week where the whole school got involved in different activities that were inspired by the Council’s Project Zero initiative.

Project Zero is part of the Council’s wider Climate Change Challenge Plan, which will help us take steps as an organisation to achieve net-zero carbon by 2030.

Throughout the week, it’s been brilliant to see that Barry Island Primary have been sharing their innovative in-class activities and considering the changes they can make toward becoming a more carbon neutral school.

Pupils took part in activities such as mapping their own active travel routes, learning about food miles and the sugar content of food, and testing renewable energy products.

Council staff have also helped support the enrichment week. For example, colleagues from our parks team have visited the school to discuss the rewilding project at Porthkerry Park and the Catering team were involved talking about  different food types.

We’d like to thank all the staff who helped to organise the week and the pupils for taking part.
