Three staff members named as Care Stars
Joanne Jones and Julia Sky from our Healthy Living Team and Jane Carter from Flying Start have all been recognised as Care Stars in the Social Care Wales Care Stars Awards

Care Stars is an initiative that was created to shine a light on the social care and early years workers who made a positive difference to people’s lives while the country struggled with the challenges of the pandemic.
In June 2021, we were invited to nominate the paid care workers who we felt should be recognised for their outstanding contributions over the last 15 months.
Karen Davies, Principal Healthy Living Officer, nominated Jo (left) and Julia (right) under the Childcare, play and early years services category. And Sue Davies, Senior Early Years Practitioner, nominated Jane Carter in the same category.
A total of 120 care workers from across Wales were nominated. A panel of judges then whittled them down to twelve Care Stars that they thought deserved recognition for the inspirational work they had done. And of those twelve, three work for the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Upon receiving the news that Jo and Julia had been recognised, Karen Davies said:
"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jo and Julia on this achievement and to thank them for their continued dedication to supporting children and young people to access play opportunities, particularly those who benefit from additional support.
"Both Jo and Julia are now busy co-ordinating a range of play activities which are being delivered as part of the Summer of Fun programme and the Families First Holiday Club. Their hard work and dedication never stops."
And Sue Davies added:
"I am delighted that Jane has won this award and am so proud of her. I would like to congratulate Jane and thank her for being so supportive and flexible over the past eighteen months.
"Jane continues to provide an excellent service to families and is an asset to our Early Years team".
Rob Thomas, Managing Director, also added his congratulations, saying:
"This is wonderful news – to receive three accolades for the Vale of Glamorgan Council is tremendous. My congratulations to Jo, Julia and Jane for the well deserved recognition for their extremely valuable contribution through their work during the pandemic".
