Safety measures at polling stations

To reassure staff who are interested in working at the upcoming elections the electoral registration team have put a number of measures in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19.

To ensure polling stations are safe the following measures will be put in place:

  • Regular cleaning throughout the day of touchpoints such as doors, polling booths and any writing implements you provide;
  • Perspex screens will be installed for polling station staff to sit behind;
  • Queue control to manage the entry to the station for social distancing purposes, as well as to encourage voters and other stakeholders attending the polling station to abide by the public health measures in place, such as the wearing of face coverings and sanitising their hands on entry and exit;
  • Regular breaks, especially as staff will be wearing face coverings in polling stations.
  • Where circumstances allow, staff at polling stations could work within their household bubble.
  • Floor markings inside and outside the polling station will help to manage queues, maintain a safe distance between staff members, and between staff and voters, and establish a one way system around the polling station.

The same regime will be undertaken at the Verification and Count on Friday 7th May and Sunday 9th May.

If you are interested in working at the election and haven’t been in contact with Electoral Registration to register your interest, please contact the office directly, the team will be able to answer any questions you may have.
