Tributes paid to staff member who died suddenly
Michael John Nott, a stalwart of the Council's Parks department sadly died of a heart attack on 25 March.
22 April, 2021
Notty, as he was known to his friends, was instrumental in ensuring the high standards of horticulture and site management required to obtain the coveted Green Flag award for a number of the Council’s feature parks.
Conscientious and a stickler for details, Notty changed his career direction around five years ago. Having first worked in parks maintenance on our green flag sites he then went on to the winter bench refurbishment team, realising that this was the perfect role for him.
'The work Mike turned out was always very detailed and of top-notch quality and he genuinely loved doing it.'
His manager, Adam Sargent, said.
Mike then went on to work in the playground maintenance team, helping to ensure that the hundreds of items of playground equipment we manage are safe to use.
'A Park bench Picasso….Mike’s refurbished benches look like new with the many coats of paint shining like glass.'
Added Miles Punter, Director of Environment and Housing.
Recently Mike has been painting a number of old rowing boats from the Knap boating lake for use as planters in our main tourist areas. As a small gesture in tribute to all of his hard work over the years, one of these boats will now be named ’The Notty’. We hope when his friends and family see it they will remember the hard work behind the project and the man at the helm.
Notty will be sadly missed and our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this most difficult of times.
