From Business Support to Reablement Support

Eryl Underdown, Business Improvement Officer in Environment and Housing, has been redeployed to work with the Reablement Team at VCRS during the Covid-19 pandemic

Tuesday 12 May, 2020

The Vale Community Resource Service (VCRS) is an integrated Health, Social Care and Third Sector Team based at Barry Hospital.

They work with people in their own home to maximise functional independence in activities of daily living, thus reducing the need for admission into hospital and longer term Social Services care services.

They also offer therapeutic intervention and reablement support to people following an admission into hospital, so that the return home can be as timely as possible.

We caught up with Eryl recently to find out a bit more about her new role and how she's finding it.

Why did you want to volunteer to work in another service area?

In the current situation I felt it was my duty to support other key departments in the organisation.

Did you need much training before getting started?

No – there was adequate training and an induction and I was set up with a PC and all of the equipment needed.

How do you feel about your new role and the work you have been invovled in?

I feel humbled to be working with such a busy and committed workforce.  It gives you an insight into all the various services we provide as a Council.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Carol Haake and her team have made me feel most welcome and I hope my contribution is beneficial to my work colleagues.
