Cycle to Work Scheme

Cycle to Work is a government incentive that could help you save up to 42% on the cost of a new bike and accessories for your commute to work.

Don't miss out: The Cycle to Work Scheme is open from 3 June 2024 to 19 July 2024.

About the Cycle to Work Scheme

Get active, save money and improve your health with the cycle to work scheme.

We are running the Cycle to Work Scheme in partnership with CycleSolutions. The scheme is supported by the UK Government to promote cycling.

The Cycle to Work scheme is a great way for employees to make big savings on a new bike and cycling equipment, whilst keeping fit and protecting the environment on their way to work.

This is a hire scheme, with the cost of the bike and equipment being taken from your monthly salary before National Insurance and Income Tax contributions are deducted.

Who is eligible

Most employees are eligible to use the scheme. The maximum purchase value is £3,500 which is repayable via salary sacrifice over 12 months.

Agency workers are not eligible for the scheme - if you apply through the scheme and are rejected, you may be entitled to a 12% discount card. If you are rejected, we will pass your name to CycleSolutions, who will contact you to discuss discounts and the possibility of an interest free loan.

There may be exceptions or alterations for those on:

  • National minimum/living wage

  • Apprenticeships

  • Probationary periods

  • Short-term contracts

How to apply

  1. Order online. Visit the Vale CycleSolutions webpage and order your bike and/or accessories. CycleSolutions will call you to confirm the details of your order.
  2. Order approval. Once your order has been finalised, CycleSolutions will send you an agreement to approve. We will also approve this document, confirming that you will be hiring the equipment for the duration of the agreement.
  3. Revolutionise Your Commute. Your bike will be assembled and delivered to your chosen address. You are then free to start using your brand new bike to cycle to work!
  4. Salary Sacrifice. After approval, deductions will be taken from your salary for the duration of the agreement.

End of scheme options

Your Cycle to Work scheme is a agreement between yourself, the Council and CycleSolutions.

You can continue to use your bike once your agreement ends by choosing one of the end of scheme options below:

  • You can sign an extended agreement and carry on using your bike for free until it is 6 years old. You will automatically be transferred ownership of your bike/equipment at the end of the rental period

  • You may be able to buy your bike by paying its current market value as calculated by HMRC

  • At the end of your hire period, you can return the bike/equipment to CycleSolutions
