Here are some of the projects we are supporting under this theme:

Making the Most of the Archives

This project explored a range of options to host historical archives on an online platform. Cowbridge History Society had a significant number of digitised photos, word documents and PDFs which they wished to host on online, whilst considering cost, security, accessibility and functionality. The project concluded that the most appropriate platform to meet their needs was the People’s Collection Wales.

Digitisation: The Way Forward

Vale Tablet Loan Scheme

A grant was awarded to Newydd Housing Association to pilot the loaning of tablets from community libraries across the rural Vale. The libraries in the rural Vale taking part are Cowbridge, Rhoose, Llantwit Major, Wenvoe & Dinas Powys. The urban libraries taking part, which were separately funded, are Barry and Penarth.

In an increasingly digital age, those who do not have access or the skills to engage with the digital world are at risk of being left behind.

The ‘Vale Tablet Loan Scheme’ was set up to address this by testing how efficient, effective and value for money lending WIFI-enabled tablets through local libraries, coupled with basic digital skills training, is at reducing digital exclusion in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Vale Digital Skills

With digital activities increasing across the Vale and more services going digital, digital literacy is becoming a more critical element of life. There is a need to improve the digital skills of those in the Vale of Glamorgan. We commissioned a series of training courses on digital skills to take place across the Vale in 2019/2020, covering some of the key skills and development in technology.
