St David’s Day is on Saturday 1st March.
As well as wearing your daffodil and Welsh lady hat, munching Welsh cakes and cawl, this year we want to look at the actions that we can all take to boost and promote the Welsh language here at the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
- Make your email signature bilingual
This simple action reflects the Council’s commitment to the Welsh language and reminds people of their right to access services through the Welsh language.
If you don’t know the Welsh translation of your job role or department, find it out! Check your ID badge, job contract, or with your line manager.
- Complete the Welsh skills assessment
Welsh Skills Assessment
It’s been a while since we last carried out an assessment of staff Welsh language skills, so we're updating our records. This information helps us to plan and promote Welsh language courses and assess current Welsh language capabilities, to ensure we can deliver our services to those who require them in Welsh.
- Sign up for a Work Welsh course
Learning Welsh - Dysgu Cymraeg
As a Council employee, you can learn Welsh free of charge through the Work Welsh scheme. You do not have to use annual leave or your own time to attend the courses but please check with your manager before signing up.
- Complete a short online Welsh course
SHORT ONLINE TASTER COURSES | Learn Welsh
There are lots of short online courses and industry specific courses available with Learn Welsh. The courses introduce everyday words and phrases and are available to everyone, for free. Some courses have been tailored for different sectors, such as Health and Social Care.
- Learn more about Welsh through this Welsh Awareness course on iDev
Course: Welsh Language Awareness - Ymwybyddiaeth o'r Cymraeg
The module focuses on the Welsh language and bilingualism, what the law says, and looks at what we must do and why. The module also looks at the practicalities of working bilingually and what this means to people who use our services.
