Council launches Vale 2030
01 April 2025
Vale 2030, the new Corporate Plan, launched today, setting the Council’s direction over the next five years and beyond.
This has been shaped following extensive consultation with residents through our Let’s Talk about Life in the Vale survey, feedback from the recent Panel Performance Assessment (PPA), input from Elected Members and engagement with partners.
It is a blueprint of how the Council will operate in the future, based around five new Wellbeing Objectives of:
- Creating great places to live, work and visit
- Respecting and celebrating the environment
- Giving everyone a good start in life
- Supporting and protecting those who need us
- Being the best Council we can be
Although there are challenges ahead, Vale 2030 sets out the bold ambition to continue delivering for residents by creating Strong Communities with a Bright Future.
Chief Executive Rob Thomas said: “Through Vale 2030 we can look forward with real enthusiasm and optimism.
“As an organisation, we will continue to embrace innovative new ways of working and partner more closely with community groups, empowering them to create thriving localities with excellent facilities and plentiful opportunities.
“Work in this area has already begun, with the latest series of Management Development Sessions taking place over recent weeks. Chief Officers have also met as a group to discuss Vale 2030, its commitments and how we will bring them to life through our work.
“There has also been considerable time spent developing a Signalling Change Plan, which will send a clear message to residents, colleagues, partners and Elected Members about the Council’s new approach through Vale 2030.”
Examples of signalling change work include a new tone of voice for Council correspondence, reflecting a desire to communicate more effectively with our residents.
Press releases, social media posts and internal news articles will tell the Vale 2030 story, with a change in how we talk about our work so that successes and achievements are celebrated in as effective a way as possible.
The external and internal websites are also set to be revamped.
Vale 2030 contains fresh commitments around partnership working and delivering for communities.
This is a fundamental shift as the Council moves to be an organisation that will increasingly facilitate the provision of services at a local level – supporting partners to make a real difference within their specific locations.
Directorate Plans linked to the Itsaboutme assessment process will replace those at a service level and there will be more staff sessions to discuss and consider all aspects of Vale 2030.
Lastly, there are proposals to enhance the scrutiny process and hold more informal briefings with Members.
This will offer an opportunity for focused task and finish work and bring all Councillors together regularly to discuss progress against Vale 2030 commitments.
Anyone interested in finding out more about Vale 2030 is encouraged to take part in an online question and answer session with Rob and Director of Corporate Resources, Tom Bowring on April 8.
