Celebrating Success: A Glowing Review from Our Work Experience Placement at Cartref Porthceri

Over the summer, Cartref Porthceri Care Home for Older people had the pleasure of welcoming Wendy!

A bright and enthusiastic student from St. David's College, Wendy joined the Vale Care Homes team for a work experience placement.

Wendy's journey began with a comprehensive training and induction program.After completing the placement, she described the work environment as "supportive and positive," which is a testament to our dedicated staff and management team who provided the guidance and support she needed.

One of the standout aspects of her experience was the variety and interest in the tasks she was assigned. She appreciated the clear explanations and found the workload to be perfectly balanced, with many meaningful interactions with residents, which she described as one of the best parts of her experience: "Getting to spend time with the residents was incredibly rewarding."

Wendy's time at Cartref Porthceri not only enriched her understanding of the care home environment, but also significantly contributed to her personal and professional growth. She expressed that the experience "contributed significantly to my skills development," underlining the value of hands-on learning in a supportive setting.

We are incredibly proud of the nurturing and educational environment we have cultivated in our care homes and the team are committed to ensuring that future placements continue to run smoothly, with more structured programmes to enhance the experience further.

St. David's College’s collaboration and support, along with Social Care Workforce Development Regional Project Officer, Steve Davies was instrumental in making Wendy's placement a success and we look forward to continuing the partnership, providing more students with enriching experiences.
