The Electoral Registration Team have been working hard to modernise the voting process
02 May 2024
Over the last few weeks, the Electoral Registration have been working hard to prepare for the Police and Crime Commissioner election. They have dispatched tens of thousands of polling cards and mailed out over 22,000 postal votes.
But the work they have carried out to prepare for today’s election has been an ongoing project as they’ve been working hard to modernise the voting process.
Last year, members of the team visited local authorities across England during local government elections to observe some of the new practices and how they fared against traditional polling station practices.
During today’s election, Poll Station Clarks will be using tablets for the first time. The tablets will be used to mark electors who have already registered to vote, logging their attendance to the polling station and issuing the ballot papers.
The elections they observed last year were also the first time that Voter ID was required for UK voters, which gave the team a chance to see the new rules in action, common errors, and how they could streamline the process for voters in the Vale.
They will also be trialling a new way to of counting ballots papers, which they hope will streamline the count process and allow the Vale to announce their results sooner.
Today, you can vote in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections. Polling stations across Wales will be open from 7am to 10pm so please do vote if you have the chance to.
Don’t forget to bring your polling card and voter ID, as you will need to present your ID before you can submit your vote.
Acceptable forms of voter ID include a Passport, Driver’s Licence, immigration document, a PASS card, Ministry of Defence Form 90, concessionary travel pass (excluding railcards), and national ID card.
The photo ID does not need to be in date to be used, however, the picture must bear some likeness to how you currently look.
