Discover Your Garden Oasis at the Civic

As the weather gets warmer, don't forget about the Civic Courtyard.

Lynne Clarke Civic Garden 1Lynne Clarke, who has almost 30 years of service at the Vale of Glamorgan Council and 14 years at Contact OneVale, has been instrumental in creating and maintaining gardens at the Barry Leisure Centre and Civic offices.

After relocating in 2020, Lynne, supported by colleagues like Rachel Slee and Neil Stokes, transformed the courtyard at the Civic offices into a vibrant oasis, complete with paths, benches, and a pond. Her efforts were recognized with the Resources Hero 2022 award.

Motivated by seeing staff enjoying the garden, Lynne volunteers her time, earning credits through the Vale Volunteering scheme. Her dedication extends to growing plants at home to enhance the garden's beauty sustainably.

Lynne's garden isn't just aesthetically pleasing—it’s also a haven for biodiversity, supporting various insects and birds. Her favourite moments include watching bees pollinate flowers and dragonflies visit the pond.

Access to the Civic Garden is available via a secure door near the back stairs. Lynne welcomes anyone interested in helping maintain the garden to reach out to her via email.

Enjoy the garden and the warmer weather.
