Colleagues receive Long Service Awards in July

Six members of staff attended the award ceremony with the Chief Executive and Leader

Long Service Awards 2Upon working in local government for milestones of 25-years and 40-years, council workers are invited to receive a Long Service Award as well as attending a ceremony.

This week, colleagues from across various teams in the council receieved theirs in a ceremony and lunch with the Chief Executive and Leader.

The award is meant to recognise the hard work and commitment that these staff members have shown over the years, but many have used it as an opportunity to look back on memories.

Stephanie Byfield, a teacher at Whitmore watched the the transition from the boys school to what Whitmore is today, and is now teaching children of ex-pupils. She recalls the boys in her class being respectful when she was pregnant, not letting her lift a finger.

Siân Dunning, a dyslexia teacher specialist reminisced about watching children begin to enjoy reading.

There was a theme of looking back on progress, seeing familiar faces develop over the years whether that be in education or employement.

Alex Daw, HLTA at Ysgol Y Ddraig commented on the fact that she is now working with a colleague who was once a student of hers.

Russle Morgan, the famed beach line driver at Barry Island also received a Long Service award this week. He remembers seeing Gavin and Stacey bring tourists to the beach over the years.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council commemorate everyone who received an award this week for their continued commitment, we take pride in the exceptional standards our colleagues display each and every day.
