Exploring Nature and Tech at Dow Corning Nature Reserve

Recently, Crawshay Court residents were invited to the Dow Corning Nature Reserve to blend nature with digital exploration. Value in the Vale lead Lianne Young coordinated with the volunteer group at Crawshay Court, assisted by Community Investment Officer Mark Ellis, to ensure a smooth visit.

Steve, a Crawshay Court resident, had researched the site online and shared that Iolo Williams opened it in 2007. This highlighted the group's digital engagement even before the visit.

Armed with iPads, tablets, cameras, phone lens attachments, binoculars, and their pedometers, the residents explored the reserve, fully immersing themselves in the environment. Some returned to the lodge to research and discuss their findings, while others were engrossed in capturing photos.

This work contributes towards the Vale becoming more age friendly, a commitment recognised by the World Health Organisation last year when the Vale was awarded age friendly status.

The visit will be followed up with activities where residents create slideshows of their photos and participate in a new initiative with their pedometers.

Stay tuned for more updates.
