Update on future use of office space

08 August 2024

The Council is currently considering how best to use its buildings to maximise their efficiency and cost effectiveness.

This work is part of the Eich Lle/Your Space project and links to the Reshaping Programme as the organisation looks to reimagine and reinvent how it operates to achieve maximum value.

The Civic OfficesRecently, a number of Corporate Resources teams were relocated to the Civic Offices, while the Contact One Vale Team has also moved back there from Barry Leisure Centre.

Next, the Learning and Skills team are having their space refreshed, with a new layout and furniture to create a functional modern workplace.

Contractors are due to start initial building and clearance works on site next week, with furniture installed by mid-September.

Ysgol y Deri will also be delivering some of their services from the Civic Offices to maximise available space. A new training room is being created for them to use from early September.

The teams involved will be communicated with directly on these matters, with their needs and those of service users a top priority when it comes to planning.

The Dock Office is another focus for work in this area, with the Council hoping to turn it into a space that outside businesses can use to grow, linked to the Marina Project and UK Government Levelling Up funding.

We are currently waiting for final confirmation of that funding before proposals, which will predominately affect staff in Social Services and Place, can further develop.

In all of this work, colleagues and service users will always be the most important consideration.

There have been no firm decisions on where people currently working in the Dock Office will be relocated, with the Civic Offices and other Council buildings a possibility.

Discussion on that subject continue with relevant Heads of Service and staff will be notified as soon as there is a significant development.
