Christmas Swap

Christmas and New Year can be a particularly expensive time. Many of us are feeling the financial strain from the season and the cost of living crisis.

Our Wellbeing Champions and colleagues supporting Project Zero have teamed up to hold a second swap event for staff at Civic Offices. This one will be Christmas themed.

Many of us will have gifts, christmas jumpers or children's toys that we don’t want or need and are thinking about donating it to our local charity shops.

Instead of donating to your local charity shop, perhaps you would like to donate it to colleagues and pick out a new outfit, gift or stocking filler ahead of the festive season?

How does it work?

  1. Have a sort through your unwanted christmas gifts, jumpers or toys at home.
  2. Drop them off at Civic Offices before the 4th of December 2023, or bring them along to the event with you.
  3. On Monday 4 December between 12pm-1:30pm the Dunraven Room, former Corporate Suite, will be open to all staff to come along and browse the donations and take away whatever they like free of charge.
  4. Donations for Santa's Cause will also be accepted at this event if you are able to donate either £20 or a new gift for a child who may otherwise go without this Christmas.

Save the planet and take the strain off your wallet.

Some stats that might make you want to be a bit more sustainable this Christmas

• According to YouGov's most recent Christmas spending tracker, in 2022, the average person in the UK spent £642 on the festive season, with gifts being the largest expense at around £300 in total

• £42m of unwanted Christmas presents go to landfill each year in the UK

• Buying new Christmas jumpers every year isn’t great for the planet – why not donate and pick up a pre-loved jumper at the swap
