Colleagues Say Farewell to Brett Rimmel After 45 Years of Service
This week, colleagues from across the Council will be saying farewell to one of their long-standing co-workers.
After over 45 years of service for the Vale of Glamorgan, Brett Rimmel will be leaving us on Friday 17 March.
Brett Started work with the Vale in 1975, working at the Llantwit Major Council depot as a carpenter before moving to the Barry depot where Brett worked until 2005.
Brett has since worked as a Maintenance Officer within Building Services and an Adaptions Officer at the Alps.
Over the past 48 years Brett has seen many changes and worked with many people.
Tony Hatwood said: “I met Brett for the first time in September 1983 on my first day in work as an apprentice carpenter. He was an intimidating looking bloke, being a part time bouncer at the time, but I soon found him to be a gentle giant.
“I worked with Brett off and on throughout my apprenticeship, and some of my best, and most lasting memories are of the stupid stunts we had during down time on site. I had more fun during my apprenticeship than should be possible, mostly thanks to Brett and some of the other characters we had working on the council back then.
“I’ve continued to work with Brett over the last 40 years, and will miss him when he retires.”
