We’re marking Refugee Week 2023
Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Founded in 1998 in the UK and held every year around World Refugee Day on the 20 June, Refugee Week 2023 is also its 25th anniversary. This year’s theme is compassion.
Throughout this week we will showcase how the Vale of Glamorgan has been a place of sanctuary in the past, present, and future. We’ll highlight the work of our teams who are working tirelessly to support refugees and those seeking sanctuary as well as the Vale’s history of welcoming the Windrush generation.
We have been invited to attend two special school events this week to mark refugee week and showcase the artwork and creativity of our pupils, who will uphold the Vale’s reputation as a county of sanctuary in the future.
The first of these is a visit to St Andrews Major Primary School in Dinas Powys today for a special assembly celebrating refugee week.Keep an eye on Staffnet and our social media feeds throughout this week to learn more.
The Chief Executive’s round-up at the end of this week will also be a refugee week special, highlighting the various events that will take place this week and the work that’s been ongoing for the past few years to welcome and support refugees in the Vale of Glamorgan.
