Vale Care Home sleighs competition in Church Christmas Challenge

Ty Dewi Sant care home jingled all the way to first place for their nativity scene made entirely from recycled and pre-used materials.
The rules of the competition stated entries should aim to include as many elements and characters of the nativity story as possible.
After narrowly missing out on the top spot last year, both staff and residents were determined to come out on top in 2022 and so several residents including Kate O’Brien, Diane Morcombe, Jenette Margetts, Barbara Bennett and Christopher Powell and a handful of staff Sam Maginn, Joanne Huish & Gemma Cornelius led by Samantha Walker headed out to the elf workshop to get started on this year’s submission.
The winning scene comes complete with wise men made from cardboard loo-roll tubes, wood logs made from wine bottle corks, and a roof made from an egg tray whilst the whole thing was illuminated by Christmas string lighting.
The win has really given both staff and residents a sense of achievement and pride in what they produced.
The aim of the competition was for people to learn the story that lies behind the celebrated holiday.
Ty Dewi Sant is a residential care home that offers long-term and respite support to frail older people and older people with dementia. The home provides a caring, comfortable and safe environment and supports and treats residents as individuals.
