Project Zero: The Council's Climate Change Challenge Plan
The draft Climate Change Challenge Plan details our proposals to tackle the climate emergency.
01 April
In 2019, the we joined Welsh Government and other Local Authorities across the UK in declaring a global Climate Emergency. We have since launched Project Zero, which represents our response to the Climate Emergency, as well as our commitment to reaching net-zero carbon by 2030.
The Climate Change Challenge Plan is part of the wider Project Zero, and details 18 challenges encompassing our commitment to demonstrating strong leadership and making a difference.
The draft plan identifies several areas where changes can be made, including transport, food, waste, buildings, land and energy. It also includes some of the work that is already underway.
Staff, our partners and members of the community are invited to share their thoughts on the draft plan, as well as how the Council can support and encourage others to make changes.
Rob Thomas, Managing Director, said: “Since declaring the climate emergency in 2019, the Council has continued to make significant changes within the organisation. However, it is clear that to achieve our ambitious target of net-zero emissions by 2030, these changes need to go further still.
“The draft Climate Change Challenge Plan not only recognises those steps that need to be taken by the Council, but also our responsibility to the wider community. As an organisation, we must lead by example, whilst also supporting our partners and residents to make impactful changes.
“For this reason, we are asking staff and the public to share their views on our draft Challenge Plan, what is important to you and how we can best support a wider movement of change to our collective impact on the environment.”
A consultation period on the draft plan will take place from 24 March to 12 May, 2021. You can find more details about Project Zero and the draft plan on our website. Feedback can be given via the online survey or by emailing projectzero@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk
We will also be holding several online focus groups to allow residents to share their ideas, staff are welcome to attend these sessions as well. More information on the sessions will be released in future.
