Phil Gauci - Abl Network
Abl Lead Profile
Hi, my name is Phil Gauci and I am one of two Peripatetic Library Support Officers for the Vale of Glamorgan Library Service, providing support and training for the volunteers who run our Community Libraries and am their point of contact with the Vale Library service.
Why I joined Abl
The reason I joined ABL is because, only in the last few years, I received an Autistic diagnosis, and this has helped me to make better sense of where, when & why I had difficulties with employment and often fellow employees. Up to this point I had trouble remaining within a position, as when difficulties arose, I would quit and seek out a new position, which meant that I rarely progressed. This was largely based on my lack of awareness of Autism.
Future Aspirations for Abl
Therefore, my key aspiration for ABL is to help raise awareness of the wide range of disabilities, the visible and less visible, and to signpost support for those currently employed or seeking employment.
In addition to this I would hope that we as a group would be able to propose and push for reasonable adjustments to ensure all our employees can feel comfortable within their roles, progress their careers and perform to the best of their abilities.
And finally to provide an ear to listen to, or talk through, any issues regarding disablement.
